BFF Maine - Select Shorts Film Program
March 12 - 21
Hosted by Bicycle Coalition of Maine
The 20th Anniversary of Bicycle Film Festival is going virtual. Bicycle Film Festival has been celebrating bicycles through art, film and music the last 20 years. The physical BFF spanned the world in over 90 cities worldwide to an audience of over one million people.
A portion of all ticket sales supports Bicycle Coalition of Maine. Since 1992, the Bicycle Coalition of Maine has led the effort to make Maine better for bicycling & walking by protecting and advancing the rights and safety of cyclists & pedestrians through education, advocacy, legislation and encouragement.
BFF Select Short Film Program appeals to a wide audience from film connoisseurs to avid cyclists and everything in between. The curated collection of select short films will take you on a journey around the world, covering such topics as:
-The first BMX crew in Nigeria
-The struggle of a young woman and her bike in Iran
-A charismatic Ghanaian immigrant in Amsterdam who teaches refugee adult women to ride bikes
-A bird's-eye view of a BLM bicycle protest ride from New York to Washington, D.C.
-New York City through the lens of female bike messengers
-The anguish of a father's loss (starring Timothy Spall)
-Cycle sport as relief from genocide
After the short film program, The Bicycle Coalition of Maine presents a Panel Discussion: "Everybody Biking Everywhere in Maine." Maine is an amazing part of the world to explore by bicycle! We'll be sharing resources, advice, and personal experiences that support newcomers to take a chance and try something new or embolden more avid cyclists to push their boundaries. Topics will cover equipment, skills and safety, route development, commuting, bikepacking and touring, inclusion regardless of age or background, adaptive cycling for people with disabilities, and ideas for blending bicycling into everyday lives. Please join us to celebrate bicycling in Maine!
