Bicycle Film Festival presents the world premiere of The Bumblebee

Followed by a Q&A with director, Jesper Heine Grand

The Bumblebee

Professional road bicycle racer, Alex Dowsett is born with a serious bleeding disorder, where a crash on the bike could be his last. Still, he dreams of joining the Tour de France and breaking the hour record – cycling's most prestigious record. For several years, the team behind the documentary has followed in the footsteps of Alex Dowsett, his family and the Movistar cycling team as he tries to reach the goal of his dreams. Dreams that come with an emotional roller coaster ride, where the price of being the first to cross the white finishing line changes Alex's view on life, illness, and career.

Director's Statement

"In my 25 years as a documentarist, it is first time I have made a film so close to my own life. As a keen cyclist, I always dreamt about being a pro rider. But born with a chronicle disease it was never a choice in life. Then one day I heard about the British pro rider Alex Dowsett, and his goal to ride in the Tour de France. But as me he also suffered from server bleeder disorder. The only difference between him and me is 20 years. It was a story I just had to tell." - Jesper Heine Grand
