The Great Gatsby's 100th Birthday Bash
A dinner party with musical guests
Thu, Apr 10 from 6:30pm - 9:30pm
The photograph at the top of this page is what Hotel Sorrento looked like on the day The Great Gatsby was published — April 10, 1925.
This April 10 — the novel's 100th birthday — we're throwing a 1925-themed party, with period-appropriate games, live music, and drink specials.
We'll party it up in the Fireside Room, but this will be a more raucous event than the reading parties. Not only is talking aloud allowed, but gathering around the piano and singing along is encouraged!
Live music
Genius Award-winning theater artists — composer Chris Jeffries and actress and singer Sarah Rudinoff — will perform 2-3 pieces of music at 7 pm.
At 7:30 pm, Sorrento star Shawn Schlogel will take over on piano — and he takes requests! He can perform whatever song you want in the style of 1925. If any of the music catches your fancy, we can gather around the piano and sing along.
Eat dinner at the party
There's a $25 minimum on food and drink per person, not included in the ticket price.
Drink specials
Mint juleps, gin rickeys, champagne, scotch — all the drinks Scott Fitzgerald and Dorothy Parker were knocking back at those massive parties that he fictionalized in The Great Gatsby will be available. There will also be mocktails and other non-alcoholic options.
Dress code
There is no dress code — it's Seattle. However! If you are a good person, you will dress like it's 1925, or you'll wear something formal or sparkly or speakeasy-ish. If you are a bad person, wear whatever, be a gangster. (That's very 1925, too.)
Secret room
There is a secret room. But it's a secret.
