Our industry is amazing, but it presents a set of unique and frustrating logistical challenges. Join award-winning indie pornographer Mahx Capacity to think through all the moving parts from your very first idea through calling "cut!" 

Have you been thinking about shooting a porno? New to the industry and feeling a little overwhelmed on where to start? This workshop gives an introduction to the indie porn ecology, and an overview of everything you’ll need to consider as you step into creating explicit content, whether you're doing it as an art practice, business, or somewhere in the middle.

In this 1.5 hr workshop, we’ll go over the basics to give you a bit of support and guidance on the business side of content creation as you get started. We’ll talk through business models, startup costs, basic legal compliance, fundraising, finding/working with performers and collaborators, forming a studio or collective, safety and consent on set, and production. We’ll also leave plenty of time for questions and discussion! You’ll leave the workshop with a list of resources and a comprehensive overview of what you’ll want to consider as you begin to make content.

Please note: this workshop was previously presented as a 2-hr workshop, and has been split into a Part 1 (above) and Part 2 (which will be presented at a later date and cover festival submissions, distribution, membership/clip site models, and monetization.)

About your Presenter:

Mahx Capacity (they/them) is one of the original founders and the current owner and Creative Director of AORTA films. A queer, white, fat, trans/non-binary, taurean pleasure prince, they’re obsessed with wielding pornography to send cultural fault lines out into the world to disrupt it for the better. Working at the intersections of sextech and regenerative economics with a background in experimental performance, Mahx is drawn to queer porn’s capacity for destabilizing pleasure, fierce vulnerability, and complex humanity. Mahx’s work with AORTA films has won best film awards across Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Mexico, and the US.
